Old Gas Station/Garage House, Terre Haute, IN

When my husband and I were planning our summer road trip in the midst of the pandemic, we were having a hard time finding any fun out and about. Water parks were closed, theme parks..closed. Even hotels were for essential workers at the time. So, what would any mom of 8 do in this situation? Find the fun where you can! My first thought to myself was, "Wonder if there are any places out there that you can stay where the stay itself is a ton of fun?" I immediately went to "Home Away" to see what I could rustle up that wouldn't break the bank. That is when I came across this place....

First look at this place and we knew we needed to stay here!!! I mean, besides the fact that it was once an old filling station and garage, what other place to stay has their own mascot:

The owner was very good about including photos of some of the fun, but left some for that element of surprise. We didn't expect to see this when we pulled up...

From the second we pulled onto the road, this was seen and the fun began! We opened the door and the kids just went nuts!

I mean, is there a level that coolness exceeds? This place is there!!! The road carpet leading to the ladder where our younger boys would share this loft for a few days was where the eyes widened first. Then came so much more...

        Peeking down from their hangout....

Hitting the candy machine...

Then came the adventures in the backyard!

Old cars to play in...

3 story tree house and hammock..

Swing...

Rowing..

And for the adults....a place to just relax!

The rooms...

The living room is in the area where the garage was so that means no feeling of claustrophobia. High ceilings! 2 comfy couches...

Look at the cool decor!

Up the ladder, the loft!

Another bedroom....

The Master Bedroom takes up the left of the building. Would have been the filling station section...

Can we talk about this kitchen for a minute? The clear window door from station to garage is still there...let's go in!

Black and white checkered floor, license plates as wall border. The kitchen was filled with everything needed including some snacks and staples. Behind that door straight ahead, washer and dryer.

Look at that seating area!

Don't forget those little fun touches everywhere...

Out front, a gas pump!

Signs...

The lift is still in the garage (non-functional of course)

We had a fabulous time at this home and can't wait to return!

Curiousity continues...
